3D Printing

Lately I have been trying to implament the concepts we learn in class to my daily life.  I have been trying to use my skills regarding persuasive short letters by email to my supervisors and managers.  I want to sound professional and express my interest in moving up.  I used OABC to be clear in my intentions.  It didn't really end up going anywhere however they know that I am serious and professional.  I feel that my credibility improved after my efforts to seek additional opportunities.  It is a slow process however I think management may be coming around to see I would be a great asset to their leadership openings.

I had a good time researching my topic for my briefing article.  The direction of 3D printing is truly remarkable.  It will change medicine forever.  We have printed organs and bone marrow.   Printed organs are not quite viable for transplant however it is getting very close.  The amount of lives we will be able to save and the amount of donor lists we can eliminate will be immediately reflected by this new technology.  Family members I have lost may have been saved with technology.  We can spare others of losing young children.  I cannot wait till it is an everyday household item.  It will change the world.

Online Interview

I interviewed Devin Hruska!  She did such a great job.  The cool thing about these interviews is that we get to learn about our class-mates and what is going on in their lives.  I found out that Devin is opening a bakery with her brothers with a Czech/texan delicacy.  It sounds awesome and would have really impressed me as a potential interviewer.

One of the hardest things for me to remember is to come up with real live applications to questions I am asked.  Remembering to use the PAR guidelines helps me to answer those questions effectively and show them how I can overcome opposition.  This is not the easiest thing to do because I have a hard time generating stories of specific examples in my life on the spot.  What I am going to do in the future is have a list of different stories already created so I may pull from those specific examples fresh in my mind.

I think I sell myself short on a lot of things and Devin helped me to realize it is ok to brag about myself a little.  Things that she found out about me impressed her and she wishes I had brought those things up myself.  It's so fantastic to see what we are doing right and what can be improved before we have an important interview.  Though they are awkward at times, role-playing is crucial to success.

Keep Praying for Lexi,
She is doing well.  She is breathing on her own.  She had a slight set back because she had to have her leg operated on after discovering a break that they didn't know was there.  She is very alert and cognitive; however, there is going to be a long road back to health.  It is amazing to me how many people actually know about Lexi and are praying for her.  My sister says she knows someone in Grenada (an island off the coast of Venezuela) who is following the "Pray for Lexi" fb page.  the Church is amazing and perfect.  The network we have is incredible.  Thanks for your prayers.

Pray For Lexi

Last week was a fun class.  I really enjoyed hearing all of the crazy stories that Mrs. Middleton had to share about her interesting dating life.  That was enjoyable.  I also thought the interviews were quite helpful regardless of how uncomfortable they are.
It was much harder to be the interviewer than I thought.  Coming up with questions on the fly took some effort but I think I could handle it.  I find that things I do well include being engaging and being real through the interviewing process.  I don't try to be someone I am, but I am able to make the interview environment relaxed.  I find that as I come across relaxed it allows my interviewers to also be more relaxed.
I had no idea how many different forms of writing letters and memos there are.  Different forms help your audience to know how to respond to the particular announcement.   It also provides the mood.  It's kind of weird but great to be educated on the matter.
Please continue to pray for Lexi.  She is making great strides but still needs us to help her and her family through this hard time.
